Biographical Data

Anna Metcalfe grew up in Virginia in a very small town 70 miles west of Washington, DC. She earned a BA in English Literature from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. After a two-year apprenticeship with ceramic artist Silvie Granatelli in Floyd, VA, she traveled abroad, attending a post-baccalaureate program at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design for one semester, and living in Tuscany, Italy for two years and working at an international ceramic center called La Meridiana. There, she also worked for ceramic artist Betty Woodman at her Tuscan studio where she resides half of the year. In 2006, she came to Minnesota to attend graduate school at the University of Minnesota. In the spring of 2009, she earned her MFA.
